For writers in the humanities, the Modern Language Association's Web site offers MLA membership and related resources, and is a guide to the essential publications, the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, for high school and college students, and the MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing, for graduate students, scholars and professional writers.

The Chicago Manual of Style is considered the "bible" of the publishing and research community, and The Chicago Manual of Style Online is now available for students, researchers, and writers to provide quick answers to style or editing questions, and for help citing sources, offers a Quick Guide to see clear examples of how to use Chicago-style citation.

MERRIAM-WEBSTER ONLINE
Merriam Webster, the only heir to Noah Webster and the leading publisher of reference books, most notably the popular Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary, provides a free online dictionary, thesaurus and Spanish/English word search, with free access to other helpful and fun English language and ESL resources.

ENCLYCLOPEDIA.COM
A leader in online reference, Enclyclopedia.com offers free access to a wide range of encyclopedia, dictionary and thesaurus sources, including The Columbia Encyclopedia, Oxford’s World Encyclopedia, and the Encyclopedia of World Biography, thesauruses with definitions, biographies, synonyms, pronunciation keys, word origins, and abbreviations, and current and archived magazine, journal and newspaper articles.
